Recent milestones by the Nigerians in the Diaspora Commission (NiDCOM) underline this strategic shift.
NiDCOM has stepped up outreach across North America and Europe—regions that account for the largest share of Nigeria’s diaspora remittances, professional networks, and policy influence.
Its Chairman/CEO Abike Dabiri-Erewa says the commission is focused on building enduring platforms that allow Nigerians abroad to contribute meaningfully to Nigeria’s economic and institutional growth.

The United Kingdom, home to one of Nigeria’s most organised diaspora communities, remains a major hub for professionals in healthcare, finance, education, and public service.
The Federal Government has deepened collaboration with UK-based diaspora organisations, while spotlighting Nigerian excellence recognised in national institutions and honours.
In the US, engagement has centred on investment mobilisation, healthcare collaboration, and professional networks, with highlights on Nigerian achievements across medicine, defence, academia, and technology, reinforcing diaspora pride and visibility.
Canada’s fast-growing Nigerian population has become increasingly active in real estate investment, SMEs, and skills transfer. Outreach has focused on youth professionals, tech talent, and structured investment pathways.
Investment Expansion
NiDCOM has significantly expanded Nigeria’s diaspora investment initiative, strengthening its reach across the United Kingdom, the United States, and Canada.
Through this expansion, diaspora investors are being directly connected to high-impact opportunities in key sectors such as real estate, healthcare, information and communications technology (ICT), agribusiness, and energy, reinforcing the diaspora’s role in Nigeria’s economic growth.
Beyond investment, NiDCOM has intensified its diaspora image and advocacy efforts by mobilising Nigerians abroad as informal ambassadors of the country.
This initiative empowers diaspora communities to counter negative narratives while actively promoting Nigeria’s economic potential, cultural richness, and global contributions.
