The Katsina State Governor, Dikko Radda, has inaugurated the 14.3-kilometer Daura Western Bypass Road to promote socio-economic growth, enhance security, and alleviate traffic congestion.
The project marks a significant milestone in the state’s urban renewal initiative.
The governor launched the project on Wednesday during a brief ceremony attended by the Emir of Daura, traditional rulers, federal and state lawmakers, and community stakeholders.
Speaking at the event, the Governor described Daura as a historically significant town with a global reputation, emphasizing that the new road would promote socio-economic growth, enhance security, and alleviate traffic congestion.

“This project demonstrates our commitment to equitable development across Katsina State. Daura deserves modern infrastructure that matches its historical importance,” the governor noted.
Earlier, the Commissioner for Works, Housing and Transport, Engineer Sani Ingawa, announced that the project includes an 11.3-kilometer road linking Dunu Village to Ganga and continuing to Dimurkol Village.
He added that the project also features a three-kilometer dual carriageway along Katsina Road from Ganga to the Emir’s Palace, despite being classified as a federal government road.
“The objective is to strengthen infrastructure development in Daura and across Katsina,” Ingawa said.
On his part, the Speaker of the Katsina State House of Assembly, Hon. Nasir Yahaya Daura, representing Daura stakeholders, requested permission to name the road after the governor.
“We are grateful to Governor Radda for choosing Daura for this significant development. This project will transform our community,” Yahaya stated.
The Emir of Daura, HRH Umar Faruq Umar, commended the governor for his integrity, dedication to the people’s welfare, and equitable distribution of projects between Katsina and Daura Emirates.
The Emir announced that the newly constructed roads would be named “Malam Dikko Umaru Radda Road” in honour of the governor.
He, however, raised concerns about the ongoing Kano to Kongolam Road construction, stating that it necessitated demolition of the Emirate’s Main Gate without reconstruction.
Governor Radda assured that appropriate compensation would be provided for all affected plots and farms in accordance with due process.
He therefore directed the Construction Company to coordinate with another Construction Company to reconstruct another Emirate Palace Gate.
The governor expressed appreciation to the Emir and people of Daura for their steadfast support for his administration.
